Conclusion of Pro Bono Memorandum

On November 1, 2014, at 12:00, the Georgian Law Firms Association (GLFA) and the Legal Aid Service established by the state concluded the Memorandum on Cooperation. The Memorandum was signed by the heads of these organizations, Zviad Kordzadze and Meliton Beridze. According to the Memorandum, the law firms – the members of GLFA shall provide the free of charge legal service to insolvent persons, on the civil and administrative cases for which the state does not provide the free of charge attorney services. The cooperation between the parties is fuflilled with the support of the
European Union. According to the Memorandum, the referral mechanism shall become effective pursuant to which the State Legal Aid Service shall readdrase the socially unprotected citizens to the law firms being the members of GLFA. Within the pro bono activities program, the law firms shall provide the free of charge representation at courts as well as the preparation of legal documentation. These services shall be rendered in consideration of the importance and complixity of cases. The service can be provided in Tbilisi. According to the Georgian legislation, only the state is responsible to provide the free of charge attorney services to the insolvent persons. As for pro bono service, the voluntary activity of law firms by which the firms fulfill their social responsibility. It is noteworthy that this it has been for the first time where the pro bono activity has received the organizational form.
