Lunch-meeting on Land Ownership and Labor Safety Issues

On June 17, 2019, the Association of Law Firms of Georgia, having regard to the needs of its members, organized a lunch-meeting with respect to the land ownership and occupational safety related issues. Rooms Hotel Tbilisi hosted the event.  The meeting covered the draft Organic Law on “Agricultural Land Ownership” and the newly adopted “Organic Law on Labor Safety.” Participants were introduced to the fundamental principles and legal regulations envisaged by the submitted legislation, likewise the challenges that may come with the new regulations in the law enforcement process.

 

The initial part of the meeting was led and the questions were responded by Giorgi Marchilidze – Lawyer of the Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Lina Jikia – from the American Chamber of Commerce and Giorgi Jugheli – the Investors Council of Georgia. During the discussion of the draft Organic Law on “Land Ownership of Agricultural Land”, the dominant focus was on Article 19 of the Constitution of Georgia. The second part of the meeting was dedicated to the Organic Law of Georgia on “Labor Safety”, which was chaired by Dimitri Tskitishvili – Member of Parliament, Raisa Liparteliani – Deputy Chair of Trade Unions of Georgia and Mariam Kuchuloria – Representative of the European Business Association. The presented part of the meeting covered labor rights, labor relations, the Institute of Occupational Safety Specialist, labor inspection activities and challenges related to the profound enactment of the law from September 1 of the current year.

 

The meeting was a discussion and question-and-answer nature and was attended by around 40 members of the Association of Law Firms of Georgia. The event had financially supported by the United Nations Development Program in Georgia (UNDP GEORGIA).
